Print 2 Group: Photo Blinds
I’ve never been a fan of plain roller blinds–they just seem a bit utilitarian to me. But I love to see unique variations of the simple design of a roller blind, and these photo blinds from Print 2 Group definitely fit the bill.

You can select from one of their photos, or you can even send in one of your own to have printed on the blinds. What a fantastic way to personalize a space! Of course, you don’t necessarily have to send in a photo…you could also opt to send in any type of graphic of your choice.

Print 2 Group also specializes in printed canvases, photo wallpaper, photo floors (wow!), and garden panels. Click here to see all of their products.

Happy decorating,

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 5 & 6 (and clarifying what it’s NOT)

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 5 & 6 (and clarifying what it’s NOT)
Today, I finished my floors. Oh my…this past week was one of the longest of my life. I was beginning to think it would never end. But in fact, it is finished. Wow…that just feels good to say (or, to type).

So here’s how the design on my living room floor turned out:

Once I got all of the painting finished and the thousands of touch-ups taken care of, the design still seems a bit…blah. It just seemed to need a little more umph. And then, I remember this guy, and the power of a Sharpie marker. So, I went to the store, purchased a couple of Sharpies, and got to work on my floor, outlining everything with black. It took about three hours to outline everything, but it did the trick. I love the design, and the black really seemed to bring it to life. I know you can’t really see it in the pic (sadly). But hey…you’ll just have to come visit!

Well, obviously one of the next jobs will be replacing baseboards, but I think I’ll rest a little first.

So the other day, after posting the pic of my living room floor before the tape was removed, I had someone ask, “Is that supposed to be like a rug?” Then yesterday, while I was working on the floor, my parents came to see my progress. My mom commented on the uneven edge on the far side, and I explained that I painted it that way to perfectly contour around the built-ins that will go there. She replied, “Wouldn’t it look more like a rug if it was straight?”

You know, it certainly would. However, I don’t really think my goal was to make it look like something. I mean, let’s face it…there’s no disguising the fact that it’s a painted concrete floor. I never meant for it to look like a rug, and I certainly never thought I was going to fool anyone into thinking it was a rug.

To be quite honest, I don’t really like things that are meant to look like something else. Faux finishes? Nope. (Now decorative painting is another thing.) Trompe L’oeil? I’m not a fan. Murals? I could do without.

So my goal was just to bring some visual interest to the floor without having to use an area rug. Trust me, with a big black dog and two furry cats in 800 square feet, I need cleaning to be as easy as possible.

Well, I’m certainly glad this week is over. Tomorrow will be back to business as usual, and I really look forward to posting about something other than my floors!!

Happy decorating!

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 4 (and taking a much-needed break)

Category: Interior Decorating

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 4 (and taking a much-needed break)
This has been the never-ending project. I’m exhausted, and my hands are so sore.

Yesterday (Friday) I went to the condo and pulled up the tape on the floor to reveal my “area rug” design in the living room. I was very pleased, but the tape pulled up some of the base color, so now I have about a thousand little touch-ups to do. I stayed for a while to do some of them, but honestly, I was too exhausted to continue, so I took the rest of the day off and took a much-needed nap.

I’m about to head over now and finish up. I’m excited to be finished with the painting today, and to be ready to do the clear top coat tomorrow. I’ll share a photo with you later today.

Happy decorating,

P.S.–Did I mention that my cabinets are NOT staying the color they are now? I just looked at the photos, and realized how TERRIBLE the floor color and cabinet color looks together. I just didn’t want y’all to think I’ve lost my mind!! After this weekend, literally the ONLY project that will be finished is my floor. I have a long way to go!!!

Spring Cleaning….and More Painting

Spring Cleaning….and More Painting

The front yard cherry tree is in bloom.

Guest Room “Before”

An indication that it’s time for a little Spring Cleaning. A little sprucing up.

Guest Room “During”

So we decided to do a little more painting (Benjamin Moore Charleston Brown). It is coming along really nicely. Perhaps the best thing about it is getting all of the “left overs” out of the room so we can remake the space into a useable guest room again. I have a few fun things planned for the room, so I hope you “stay tuned” for the results!

Til then…have a great weekend and a Happy Spring!

Video Shopping - A Brand New Experience with Talk Market

Video Shopping - A Brand New Experience with Talk Market

Here’s my inspirational photo of the day. A gorgeous
modern kitchen with light counters and rich, dark woods
for the floors and cabinetry. I quite love the very dark
floors - they are dramatic with the stainless steel appliances.

Today, I bring you something different. Have you ever
heard of video shopping? This is the first I’ve seen of it
and it’s quite a neat idea. Talk Market is the first of it’s
kind that I’m aware of and it is a new venture funded by
Amazon. You should definitely check it out.
They have some really cool and unique items as they offer
items from boutiques all over the country. The product
above is called the Taika collection and is illustrated by a
renowned Finnish illustrator. The colors and designs are
gorgeous.

I’ve always loved maps and atlases ever since I was
young. It’s probably due to my obsession with travel.
The Map Totes are excellent grocery bags and they are
available in all sorts of well known cities around the
world.

Although this product is expensive, I have to say that is
very unique and very neat. You really must see the video
for these huggable light pillows. Believe it or not, these lights
were inspired by seasonal depression disorder. The lights are
actually removable from the pillow and they are squeezable!

Talk Market offers products of all kinds from gifts, decor to
fashion. I have 10 gift certificates available for the first 10
readers that are interested in receiving a certificate. If you
are interested, please email me at krissblade@yahoo.com.
The certificates are for $20 each and the minimum purchase
is $20. Great isn’t it? The certificates are good through
April 30, 2009.

And I leave you with a gorgeous view for the weekend.
Midcentury modern home with a view - clean and gorgeous.

If you have a chance to check out Talk Market and video
shopping, please let me know what you think of this new
way to shop online! Does it make it easier? Would it make
it easier for you to make a decision to buy something online?
I’m curious because I do a ton of shopping online and many of
my friends always ask me how I could possibly feel comfortable
shopping online for something that I can’t touch or see in person.

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 3 (and hints of what’s to come)

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 3 (and hints of what’s to come)
Well, there’s a reason that I’m posting this at 12:45am. Yes, I just got through painting my floors. I’m beyond exhausted, but only a few touchups, and then the clear topcoat to go. I’m so ready to be finished!!

So here’s the progress so far:

The paint is still wet (and drying randomly in places),
but you can at least see the color.

And the hallway. Some paint is wet, some is dry.

And the living room. You can see hints of what’s to come.
I had wanted the difference to be more subtle, but got tired
of messing with paint. Oh well.

So that’s it so far. I’m really ready to be done and move back in. I miss my little condo!!

Happy decorating,

Save when you buy in Atlanta’s top ten most walkable neighborhoods

Save when you buy in Atlanta’s top ten most walkable neighborhoods

One sure sign of spring is more people out walking. With the near-perfect weather we’ve had this past week you just want to get out in it.

Recent polls show that home buyers rank proximity to daily conveniences as one of the two most important factors in choosing a neighborhood—more important than schools and property taxes! If you can walk to those conveniences, all the better.

Atlanta has some neighborhoods like that. It’s easy to pinpoint them because of a great mapping tool called Walk Score. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc. and assigns it points on a scale from 0 - 100. 0 is on a deserted island somewhere and 100 is walker’s paradise.

For example, LEEDing Edge, my ecohome listing at 546 Edgewood Ave., has a walk score of 88 and is defined as “Very Walkable”. If you take a peek at the map below, you can see what makes it so, with all the walkable destinations displayed on the map.

Using this tool we can now identify Atlanta’s top ten most walkable neighborhoods with their corresponding walk scores. They are:

  1. Five Points:  95
  2. Poncey-Highland:  93
  3. Sweet Auburn: 88
  4. Midtown:  87
  5. Atlanta-Inman Park:  86
  6. Old Fourth Ward:  84
  7. Downtown:  81
  8. Virginia-Highland:  80
  9. Home Park:  76
  10. Cabbage Town:  74

These are some pretty desirable places to live with high quality-of-life. And there are homes for sale in these areas at record low prices. Imagine targeting one of these neighborhoods for the purchase of a green-certified home or greenovating a fixer-upper foreclosure, enjoying the stimulus plan rebates in the process. You could save gas + energy while living a healthier lifestyle.

And now I’m adding to the savings with my very own up front ecohome guy stimulus.

Do you have a goal to move to a more walkable neighborhood in 2009? For the privilege of working as Buyer’s Agent with your deep green self I am offering you a cash rebate after closing of up to 1% of the sales price, depending on the walk score of your new home. A score of 100 would qualify for the full 1%. Cash rebates apply to the purchase of Atlanta homes inside the perimeter with walk scores of 75 or greater. So any homes in Atlanta’s top ten most walkable neighborhoods should qualify.

Let’s say you bought LEEDing Edge. It has a walk score of 88. I would rebate you 88% of the 1% of the sales price at closing. The home is priced at $489K, so you would get back $4303.20 at closing! To calculate the rebate on the home of your choice, just type in the address at WalkScore.com. Take the walk score and put a decimal point and two zeros in front of it.  Multiply this by the sales price and you’ve got your rebate. So in our example 489,000 X .0088 = 4303.20.

Call me at 404.421.9968 or email me to get started on your walkable neighborhood home purchase.

Fixing the Bugs

There were a few bugs in the system on my website that I believe have been cured. Don’t worry….all of the good bugs are still here like this one ( by the lovely Patricia of PVE Design):

If you have been trying to email me through the Katie Denham Interiors website or trying to send a client information form, they have not been coming through. My apologies! We think we have found the problem and I hope to hear from you!

Thank you!

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 2 (and it’s a little disheartening)

The Concrete Floor Diaries, Day 2 (and it’s a little disheartening)
So here are my floors after day two:

Well, what do you think? Can you tell the difference? Maybe a little? No? I didn’t think so.

You know, it’s very disheartening to work for ten hours straight, and end up with my floors looking just like they did when I started this morning. But looks can be deceiving. The floors were cleaned, etched, and primed. Ready for paint tomorrow!

Happy decorating,

DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS
One of my favorite aspects of the design world is when talented artists and designers come together to put on an event for a cause and DIFFA is the perfect example for just that. The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is launching their 12th National Tour of DINING BY DESIGN tomorrow in New York City where thousands of supporters will come together to enjoy the breathtaking installations that the top photographers, architects, fashion, consumer product, and interior designers have put together for this amazing event.

Founders Patricia Green and Larry Pond started this organization in 1984 and since then DIFFA has granted millions of dollars to hundreds of HIV/AIDS focused groups that engage in preventive education, patient treatment, and public policy. On top of supporting a great cause, this gives supporters a great opportunity to experience a collection of fine design that is appreciated by everyone. Here’s a peek from last year’s event - I’ll be sure to write up an updated post with designs from 2009!
